เคย means have you ever done sth.

• เคยไปญี่ปุ่นหรือยัง    ยัง(ยัง),เคย(เคย อ่ะจริงดิ เคยไปกี่ครั้ง),เคยไปครั้งเดียว(ครั้งเดียว  O.K.)
• เคยไปญี่ปุ่นหรือยัง    ไม่เคย(ไม่เคย)
• เคยกินส้มตำไหม    เคย(หัวเราะ),(เนล่ะเคยไหม)เคย เคย(O.K.)
• เคยอะไรอีก เคยเรียนภาษาสเปนไหม  ไม่เคย(ไม่เคย)
• เคยเรียนภาษาเออ!เกาหลีไหม  ไม่เคย
• เคยเรียนภาษาญี่ปุ่นไหม   เคย(O.K.)
• เออ ! เนเคยกินแฮมเบอร์เก่อร์ไหม  เคย(O.K. มันเป็นไงบ้าง),มันก็ขนมปังกับหมู ไม่ก็คือจะกิน ถ้าเกิดมันรีบไง แต่ปกติก็กินข้าวดีกว่า
• เคยเรียนฟิสิกส์ไหม   เคย(เหรอ ยากไหม),ไม่ยาก ชอบ จิ๊บจ๊อย

เคย is another one of those super-necessary words.  Lets see how it works.

A: เคยไป(เที่ยว)อเมริกามั้ย ?

B: ไม่เคย จะไปได้ยังไง ไม่มีเงินเลย

A: Have you ever been to the US?

B: No way.  How could I?  I’m broke.

The structure works as follows:

เคย Verb ไหม / มั้ย

Have you ever eaten __________?

เคยกิน _____ มั้ย

If yes, you can simply say ‘ เคย ‘

If no – ‘ ไม่เคย ‘

More Examples:

1. เคยมีแฟน(เป็น)คนญี่ปุ่นมั้ย      Have you ever had a Japanese girl/boy-friend?
2. ไม่เคยอ่านเล่มนั้น           I’ve never read that book.
3. ไม่เคยไปกรุงเทพ           I’ve never been to Bangkok.

Remember I’m going to use as little grammatical jargon as possible.

Expressing things such as…

• One time…
• I knew this one guy….
• When I was a kid, I had this dog…
• I have this friend….

This is fairly simple and very useful in making yer speech more ธรรมชาติ.

• มา ก่อน ไอ รู้จัก ผู้ชาย คนหนึ่ง
• ตอนเด็ก ไอ มี หมา ตัวหนึ่ง
• มี เพื่อน คนหนึ่ง

Theres plenty of useful ways to use this.

Try to work out how to say the following:

1. I once had this car…..
2. When I was in high school, there was this teacher who….
3. There once was this little egg….

Amusing Real-Life Example

มีเพื่อนคนหนึ่ง เขากินเป็ปซี่

Lets break that down

มีเพื่อนคนหนึ่ง เขากินเป็ปซี่ I have this friend who drinks pepsi….

แบบ ว่ากินแทนน้ำเปล่าเลย like, as in ..she drinks it instead of water..

เราเลยคิดว่า      And, well…I think…

เราไม่อยากให้เขากินมาก  I don’t want them to drink so much (of it)…

กลัวเป็นอัตราย because I’m worried it might be dangerous(correct sp = อันตราย)

มีวิธีไหนให้เขากินน้ำเปล่าบ้าง  is there some way I can get them to drink some water

เพราะบอกเขาแล้ว because I’ve told them already….

เขาบอกว่าทำไม่ได้  and she said she can’t …

เขากินน้ำเปล่าวันไม่ถึงแก้วเลย she seriously doesn’t even drink 1 glass of water a day
