How’s it going?

These are all relatively informal greetings and they function much like their English equivalent.

When บ้าง is at the end of a question, it’s assumed that there will be more than one possible answer. So when you say เป็นไงบ้าง, it’s really like “What’s going on?” or “What’s happening?”

• เป็นยังไงบ้าง – How’s it going?
• เป็นไงบ้าง – How goes?*Notice that the ยัง in ยังไง vanishes and leaves you with just ไง.

• เป็นไงมั่ง – What’s up?

  * บ้าง often changes to มั่ง when spoken.

• มึงเป็นไงมั่งวะ – Sup.

  **This one’s pretty rude. Use it with your friends only. Expect to either get a laugh or horrify them.

• ช่วงนี้เป็นไงบ้าง – How’s everything going lately?

• โอโห ไม่ได้เจอตั้งนาน เป็นไงบ้าง – Wow, I haven’t seen you in ages!  What’s been goin on?
