Have you ever heard Rayong dialect?

When I first moved to Bangkok, I would sometimes use words that are distinct to Rayong and my friends in Bangkok wouldn’t understand.

One time, I said to my friend that “ ฝนอ่อยแล้ว ไม่ได้เอาร่มมาทำไงดี” (I’ts drizzling.  I didn’t bring an umbrella.  What to do…)
They didn’t understand so I had to explain that ฝนอ่อย just means ฝนตกปรอยๆ

If somebody asks “ รู้จักสาวคนนั้นมั้ย เค้าเป็นคนยังไง” (Do you know that girl? What’s she like?)  someone from Rayong might answer, “ เอาได้” which basically means that she “ เป็นคนดี” (She’s a good person. / She’s nice/alright.)
Upon hearing this for the first time, someone from another province would probably go silent because people (outside of Rayong) generally understand (เอา) when referring to people is slang for sex.

When I tell people that I’m from Rayong, they often tease a bit by saying “ ระยองฮิ.” The Rayong accent is considered rural and has a number of words that are only understood in that province. Some people will add a soft “ ฮิ” at the end of a sentence. Young people don’t really speak the Rayong dialect these days so before long it will probably disappear.

ตอนเราย้ายมาอยู่กรุงเทพใหม่ๆบางทีก็เผลอพูดคำที่ใช้กันที่ระยองเท่านั้นจนเพื่อนๆงง มีอยู่วันนึงบอกเพื่อนว่า “ฝนอ่อยแล้ว ไม่ได้เอาร่มมาทำไงดี” เพื่อนไม่เข้าใจต้องอธิบายต่อว่าฝนอ่อยก็คือฝนตกปรอยๆนั่นแหละ

ถ้ามีคนถามว่า “รู้จักสาวคนนั้นมั้ย เค้าเป็นคนยังไง” คนระยองอาจจะตอบว่า “เอาได้” แปลสั้นๆคือเป็นคนดี คนจังหวัดอื่นได้ยินคำนี้ครั้งแรกน่าจะอึ้งไปเลยเพราะคนทั่วไปเข้าใจว่าคำนี้เป็นคำสแลงเกี่ยวกับเรื่องบนเตียง

เวลาบอกใครว่ามาจากระยองจะโดนแซวว่า “ระยองฮิ” เป็นประจำ สำเนียงคนระยองจะเหน่อๆ มีคำที่เข้าใจกันเฉพาะคนระยองหลายคำ บางคนจะพูด “ฮิ” เบาๆท้ายประโยคด้วย เด็กๆรุ่นใหม่พูดภาษาระยองไม่ค่อยได้แล้ว สักวันนึงภาษาระยองคงจะหายไป
